Know Your Limits
“Know your limits, then ignore them.” – John Mason
No matter who you are, you will have certain strengths and other weaknesses. There will be some things that you are great at. They come easily. Others might not be that easy but you are really good at them – because you have worked hard on them in the past.
However there are things that seem really foreign to you. Some of these you may have tried in the past but just never mastered. Others may have seen so unobtainable that you have never really attempted them. Yet others you have never even heard of!
Nobody can be good at everything. Even the most skillful and successful in one or more areas will be deficient in others. That is just the way of things. There are just too many skills and areas of knowledge for any one person to master them all.
You should know where you stand. Know your strengths and be aware of your weaknesses.
But don’t beat yourself up about it.
“Know your limits, then ignore them.” – John Mason
You need to know your limits. But you should not be limited by them.
If you have a particular goal, which requires the completion of certain tasks, don’t give up on it just because you may not currently have the skill set to perform those tasks.
You have a number of alternatives.
- Learn how to do it.
- Get someone else to do it for you. (Outsource)
- Find another way to achieve the same result.
By knowing your limits – you can save yourself the time and energy spent on something that is unlikely to succeed. Use this knowledge to find an alternative way to solve the problem.
Don’t let your limitations stop you – be creative.
